Campeche:

Campeche is part of the Mayan World. Its archeological sites are more than 1,000 years old. Among them the most famous are Edzna, Jaina, Chicanna, Ixpuhil and Calakmul. Apart from this its colonial history and pirate legend have given the City of Campeche a peculiar personality. Because of invasions by pirates scoundrels forts and bastions were built to protect the old city. Some of these unique structures have been converted into museums

Spending time in Campeche, one can learn a rich culture, explore vast lands and relaxation. Here one can find the most peaceful beaches, lagoons, rivers, impressing Mayan archeological sites, subterrain waters, ecological reserves, colorful islands, colonial cities, forts and bastions, churches filled with mystery to be discovered and the adventure of exploring an old legacy.

Campeche is located on the southeast part of the Mexican Republic and is bounded on the north and northeast by Yucatan, on the east by Quintana Roo and Belize, on the south by Guatemala, on the southwest by Tabasco, and on the west and northwest by the Gulf of Mexico.
Campeche has an area of 56,114 sq. km. (21,665 sq. mi.) including 288 islands and has two kinds of climate: the humid warm and the sub-humid warm. The sub-humid warm climate has periods of rain in the summer and beginning of fall over most of territory. In the dry season it is characterized by the convergence of warm winds from the east and the southwest. The humid warm climate is prevalent in the southwest part of the state by the Tabasco border.

The City of Campeche, which is also a port in the Gulf of Mexico, is the capital of the state. It is located 196 km southeast of Merida by the federal highway 180, and 471 km northeast of Villahermosa by the federal highways 186, 261 and 180.
The beauty of the City of Campeche, as a colonial city, is a good reason to consider it as a Humanity Cultural Heritage. Today it is a contemporary city that has not lost its rich traditions and magic cultures of the early days. Nowadays the bastions and remains of the wall are historical monuments, museums and gardens. From the San Miguel Fort there is a nice view of the city and the sea.
